Helleholm Lighthouse

Agersø ends to the south in an peninsula that leads out to Helleholm and Helleholm Lighthouse. The beautiful white-painted lighthouse with an ornamented red iron roof has a flame height of 12 meters, which makes it visible 11 nautical miles/about 16 km away.

It is surrounded by beautiful nature with lots of birdlife. The area north of Helholm Lighthouse is a protected Natura2000 area due to its many waterfowl.

As motorized driving is not permitted, the trip to the lighthouse can only be done on foot or by bicycle. There is no public access to Helleholm lighthouse, but you can enjoy the beautiful building from the outside. Take the road south to the left of Agersø Købmand and follow the road to the end of the island.

Egholm

Egholm is a privately owned island north of Agersø, which has been connected to Agersø via a dam since 1968.

From the dam, you can get a glimpse of the island's beautiful white main building through the surrounding oak forest. There is a 2 hours walking/hiking route around the island that is accessible to the public.

Agersø Coastal Battery

Agersø Coastal Battery on the south-west side of the island was built in 1808 during the British Wars (1807-1814) with the purpose to defend the entrance to Omøsund.

Four cannons were set up here and copies of these can be seen on grounds today.

You can also find stories about life on the island during the wars with England and how the 1200-1400 stationed soldiers were housed.

Buriel mound

Just where Vrangsbjergvej meets Digevej, on the left you can see a burial mound (‘Langdyssen’) dated 3950-2801 BC.

Langdyssen is a 175m long burial mound from the Peasant Stone Age, the best preserved are the edge stones to the east.

The picture shows the silhouette of the mound captured by Betina Linde from Linde's Gallery in the beautiful sunset.

The beaches

You can walk along the beaches all along Agersø.

Close to Agersø Camping and just to the right of the ferry port is a beach, but the best beaches are on the west coast of the island

Here you will find plenty of splendid sandy beaches and child-friendly shallow bathing waters.

You can access beach via paths from Lillemadevej, Vrangsbjergvej and Strandgårdsvej.

Fishing

In addition to beautiful nature and a rich birdlife, Agersø also offers good opportunities for angling.

There are several good fishing spots on the island, e.g. on Helleholm furthest to the south, which is especially good in summer, and Egholm Flak furthest to the north, which offers good conditions for trout fishing all year round.

Remember to obtain a valid fishing license.
